Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions about My IHS Card? Here are some of the things people ask us most.
Who can use My IHS Card?
Anyone can use My IHS Card – it’s not limited to people receiving Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) services. Whether you’re supported by a provider, family, or friends, or you simply want your care contacts in one place, this card is for you.
How much does it cost?
My IHS Card is free forever. My IHS Card has been funded and subsidized by the Australian Government. There are no sign-up fees, subscriptions, or hidden costs – now or in the future.
Do I need a smartphone to use it?
Yes, you’ll need a smartphone to download the app and save your card to your wallet. If you’re helping a family member or friend set theirs up, you can manage their card from your own phone on their behalf.
Can someone else manage my card for me?
Yes. Family members and carers can create and manage a card for someone they support, so contacts stay current even if the person receiving care isn’t comfortable using an app themselves.
What happens if my care contacts change?
You (or whoever manages your card) can update your contacts at any time, so the information in your wallet is always current.
Is my information secure?
Yes. Your details are stored securely and only used to keep your care contact card accurate and accessible to you.
Do I need the internet to use my card?
Once your card is saved to your phone’s wallet, it’s available to view even without an internet connection.
